butcher paper
I think you should use it for a towel rack in the bathroom. You could spray paint it any color or leave it if you like the silver.
Good find for $3.00
a scarf holder? or hang it, just like it is, in the hallway : to provoke interesting discussions..
It seems to be part of a larger unit, like the top of something else, since there appear to be feet (for lack of a better word) that would fit into another thing. But I'm not sure that I am seeing it correctly. The cylinders are interesting by themselves - turning them sideways, perhaps? I don't have much imagination but many of you do.........
Reminds me of the racks that held wrapping paper back in the day when stores wrapped the gifts you bought. Hinges are likely there to reload paper rolls.
I don't know what it was created for, but I find it a VERY interesting piece! I think maybe you could finagle a way to stop the rollers from rolling and use it for any number of things! I like the idea posted above (below??) to set it in an entryway and leave it open for some interesting discussions :-)
I too thought at first glance-towel rack. You could put battery operated coloured lights inside the cylinders it could become hung on a wall a lighting feature. It may of course at one time been part of a garden water feature but whatever it was or is to become will I'm quite sure continue to provoke comment. Yet another project to add to the list. It might be a good idea to fill the cylinders with seeds for the cardinals to snack upon, have a very happy festive!!!!
Is it possible that this was used to drape and dry pasta?
Fascinating, seriously. I love puzzles, i might show your pics to some bakerys, joanns or other fabric stores. If it rolls as easily as you say than right now I'm kinda stumped, lol. But it'll make me crazy so I'll think on it. Good luck.
1940's (est.) Back massager.
pasta dryer sounds good! I figured it was to hold foil, Saran Wrap, waxed paper....
holder for saran wrap , wax paper, aluminum foil and paper towels
if it didn't roll would be great for earrnings
IT WAS FIRST USED TO HOLD, ROLLS OF FABRIC, THUS YOU HAVE THE ROLLERS TO MOVE FROM PLACE TI PLACE , AND THE CUSTOMERS COULD LOOK AT THE BACK OF THE MATERIAL TO SEE IS THEY NEEDED BACKING.

ribbon holder...
I had an item similar to this but it wasn't this fancy. I always did a lot of sewing and and bought rolls of fabric. My holder had 36 inch rollers though which is the standard width of most fabrics
use image search that uses a picture to search for the imagine.
Maybe from a butcher shop to hold parchment paper, Kraft paper and foil Just a guess though
Kitchen Rolls of all types or use in Craft room.
