American Paint Company Chalk Paint and Wax Review

I love working with chalk paints and like many of you that may have tried them, you probably started with Annie Sloan. I still love Annie, but haven't you been even the littlest bit curious about how some of the other chalk paints and waxes on the market work?? Here is my review of American Paint Company's chalk paint and wax.

I have been using American Paint Company paint for two years. This year I have encountered, multiple times, colors of the same color not matching. Emails to American Paint Company have gone unanswered. Most recently Fireworks Red. I had to purchase an additional quart to finish a project. When I opened the can, the color did not match the first can of Fireworks Red. It was more pink in color. I do not recommend American Paint Company paint unless you are only going to use/need the same quart for the same project.

@Fsrthll Wow, what a terrible experience. I haven't had to order more of a same color for a project so I haven't had a problem yet. I appreciate your feedback. I would be very frustrated too if the colors were not matching. I would definitely send the paint back to where you ordered it for credit or a new can. The girl I ordered from was really helpful to me and she gave great customer service. Her name is Donna at http://www.paintedpastdesigns.com. Maybe it is better to work through the individual seller than the company.

I noticed this post from quite a while ago but did want to respond. I sell American Paint Company Products - I don't know who you emailed but I would like to address the concern. There was a batch of Fireworks Red that came out of the factory off-tinted. It was more pink than red. The problem has been corrected and our colors are stable. Please contact me fsrhll for a refund or replacement. Also, www.paintedpastdesigns.com offers free shipping on orders over $50 with the code "senditfree"

@Donna McCrummen Hi Donna, thanks for taking notice and responding. Apologize in advance for a long reply but want to put my full story out there. It was not a pleasant experience and I think American Paint Company grew from what happened. I had emailed the owner of the company directly. I made due with what I had and got my paint projects out to my clients. I did hear back from American Paint Company but not really in a timely manner for me to met my deadlines with my customers. In the beginning APC denied the possibility of this happening and gave me some reason/excuse, until I sent them photos. There was one color from obviously three different batches where the tints were all very different. I found the same problem with six other colors where the tints were very different between two different batches. It wasn't until then they offered to make it right with me but for someone working on deadlines I made due with what I had, mixed my own colors of mismatched paint and was able to have satisfied clients. It came down to someone experimenting with the tint formulas and no quality control. Eventually they began putting batch numbers on the paint lots. However, if you didn't know there was a problem to begin with, you wouldn't know to check and make sure you were buying paint from the same batch to ensure your colors were matching. This could still be problematic if I bought a quart thinking it was enough for a large project and had to go back to buy more but was unable to find the paint color from the same batch. It appears APC has things back on track. They are now producing tints where they appear to match regardless of the paint coming from different lots. The most recent paint they are producing appears to have Original Formula on the cans. And, through all my frustration I still continue to use American Paint Company paints because I like the product.
