How to paint metal?

I just bought an antique bed frame and it is very rusty. I know how to sand it to clean it up but would like advice from all of you on paint. I had thought maybe chalk paint but I don't know if it would work and if you have to finish it with something to keep from rubbing of. Any advice on that or other types of paint would be great.

You can sand the rust off or use a rust remover/neutralizer Krud Kutter Rust Remover and Inhibitor, LOCTITE Rust Remover and Neutralizer, Evapo-Rust Rust Remover. Spray with a paint made for metal, Rustoleum, Krylon, etc. Use several light coats for a smooth finish.

you can use floor paint. it will stay for a long period of time.

Rustoleum makes some very nice metallic spray paint. I used it on an old cast iron bed. It turned out great. My daughter used what was left on some old garden urns and they look great as well.

I use Rustoleum (spray) on old metal lawnchairs that I have had sandblasted and primed. They hold up great outside all year round.
