Diane Navarro Tippetts on Nov 04, 2013your sheet rock is holding in the moisture, it either needs to be replaced as well as the roof OR you simple fix for you since you are a renter.... spary mold with 50/50 bleach and water, dry it with a heat lamp or blow drier, then paint 2 coats of KILZ paint over it, it will seal in the mold.Helpful Reply

Barbara on Nov 04, 2013Thank you for your advice. The house was built in 1948. We lived there for 18 years and never ever had this problem. We had some renters that let a leak go because they were behind on the rent and did not want to tell us. Rotted out the kitchen floor and bathroom and they have all been replaced. Why now is it happening? The HVAC person said it was because the new renters were not turning on the ac. They were using just the whole house fan. It should go away after they turn on the heat.Helpful Reply
