I used to have a big fish tank; we used a pair of overhead cabinets we found at the Habitat Restore for cheap, added legs, and then added a couple marble tiles to the top. Worked great!

Just remember to calculate the weight of the tank, water, rocks, etc, reinforce base cabinets, possibly mount your power strips UP inside the cabinet wall to keep them up out of any leaking/spraying water or dampness that could accumulate inside the cabinets at the floor level. If you have to change/clean a filter, water can get everywhere, esp if you're working in a cramped spot, on your knees, in the dark of the cabinet/stand. Open a panel in back for all of the hoses, cords, etc. If the cabinets aren't thick, consider sound insulation for the inside of the cabinet. Most of all, put in a small light, battery powered, like a click on/off type so you can see your pumps, filters, etc. Painting or contact papering the inside in a light color or white will also help with visibility... I had a 225 gal salt water tank and ALL of these things helped.

When I was a kid my dad found an old tv cabinet and used the shell of it for the cabinet. I wonder if there are any cool ones out there.

I used the bottom of a hutch. The top was damaged and ugly but the bottom was perfect. Reinforced it on the inside with 2x4s for the weight factor. Stained it and used rubberized shelf liner under the aquarium (exact size of bottom) to prevent scratches if moved
