Angel Roberts on Nov 07, 2013Thank you!! I plan on seeing what I can find out about each piece before I do anything. The wood crates are in great condition other than being a little dirty. I don't plan on using any clean products on those, I will just use a cloth to wipe off what I can.Helpful Reply

Kris S on Nov 09, 2013Wow! Congratulations! What a find! Any changes you make to these items will seriously depreciate their value. That's why I applaud your decision to check them out before you do anything. I would take the rocker and crates to an appraiser or antiques dealer for valuation and suggestions. Take along a photo of the cabinet since it's too large and could be damaged trying to move. An expert may be able to identify it for you. After that, then you can decide what you want to do. We have a rocker similar to the one you have. Refinishing will do more harm than good in the long run...and painting any antique wipes out most of its value as an antique. If something is so damaged that it cannot be refurbished or repaired to its original state, then painting might be an option.Helpful Reply

Bess W on Jan 22, 2014Lucky you! I actually worked for the Atlas Company when I graduated high school. I am now 65. Your boxes brought back great memories of being the youngest person at work back then, befriended by some of the nicest women I ever knew. They taught me how to be a good wife and introduced me to decorating on a shoestring. Good times.Helpful Reply

Myrna Engle on Dec 01, 2014I'm so happy that you didn't paint first and consider your choices second. The old chair probably has value that would be ruined by paint. The glass front cabinet would look better with some form of lightening. I'm not very good at seeing things and how they would look if painted. Sometimes it's gorgeous.Helpful Reply

Mary Wheeler on Mar 23, 2015Great pieces!! If you decide to paint the cabinet and remove the glass; try the Atlas boxes on the bottom shelf. I have seen these used as drawers, add some decorative pulls and you have hidden storage!Helpful Reply
