My old cabinet doors have those sunken lines within the doors. How can they be painted to look right?

You will need to fill in the lines and lightly sand the entire doors before you paint.

I used those sunken areas as a contrast trim. My cabinets are painted white semi-gloss. I painted the recessed area with high gloss black. I also repainted the knobs with a black and white water marbling nail polish effect after doing a base coat of self etching primer and white spray paint. I get tons of compliments.

    Wood filler, sand, paint.

Fill the grooves with drywall patching compound. Lightly sand the whole doors to remove any shine and roughen the surface for paint. Prime with KILZ, BIN, or Zinssser. Then paint with your color and seal with at least three coats of water based polyurethane, sanding lightly in between coats.

I will use wood filler but I will have to take my old door in because I have no idea what the color is. I am sure the colors available now have changed drastically since the time these were done.
