Modernizing my table

Have a beautiful colonial table with 2 extensions that is too "heavy". I saw in a thrift store a table similar to this, but it was transformed into a drop leaf table with another piece of wood about 3" wide covering where the "table " would be. I would like to make the table modern. I mostly need to get rid of the heavy legs, and am not sure what type of leg to replace them with. I know they need to swing out when exposed, and what do I do with the part that extends for the leaves? It worked wonderfully, but I need more details on how to make it happen.

yes, definitely need pictures, from different angles, even the underside... you might want to talk to someone who does woodworking - they would have the tools already and might convert the table for you for a modest fee.... then you would only have to refinish it... the extra leaves could work as shelving
