I have used either a blow dryer or heat gun to soften the adhesive and pull them up. Be careful not to burn the tiles. They do emit harmful fumes. I open windows just in case.
Having been in the flooring business for 30 years+, I suggest the following: Place a large block of dry ice on the tiles, cover with a sturdy cardboard box (which keeps in the cold), wait a minute or so, slide the box to the next area. Then using a razor scraper, remove the frozen tile. Place immediately in a disposal bag. The glue will be crystallized and not reactivated as with heat.
I have used the hair dryer method very successfully. Heat the tile with hair dryer on high and then peel it up with a wide putty knife! Very easy!
I use a hot iron and a wet towel..Place the wet towel down and run the hot iron over it. the heat and moisture loosens the glue
