Hard to determine cost without any measurements. What your exterior is made of, size of existing window to how large, material costs, etc. Here are some instructions. ***** http://community.homedepot.com/howto/DiscussionDetail/replace-a-small-window-with-a-larger-one-9065000000005ee ***** http://homeguides.sfgate.com/change-rough-window-opening-size-23411.html ***** http://www.ronhazelton.com/projects/how_to_install_a_window_in_wood_siding
If everything is a go (see William's comment, above), and you're handy enough to DIY, it would cost whatever the window costs, plus caulk, shims, whatever might be necessary for the new framing/header, finish trim, and any necessary permits.
OR you could not alter the "build" of the opening and instead put in a bay window which would let in the extra light that you're after.
When we had our windows replaced, the new frames were narrower than the old ones, and so we got in a few extra inches of sunlight, which was a nice surprise :-)
