I know that when we painted our house years ago, we donated leftover paint to Habitat for Humanity - maybe contact your local branch? You could also transfer it to smaller containers and hang onto it for smaller projects.
Donating to Habitat is a great idea. I volunteered with them and they accept all types of donations. What I do is put the paint in smaller containers. I mix my own custom colors using leftover paint for my projects.
Remember to put some in an airtight container for touchups later and label where it was used necessary. Then donate to habitat for humanity.
Call a non profit and ask if needed. I know that most non profits I have volunteered for would love free paint.
Thanks!
Maybe donate to a local school or kindergarten? might be really appreciated there.
we let it dry out take to recycling center
I would always recommend saving the paint, just in-case you might need a "touch-up". But if we are talking about basic colors that are easy to re-purchase when need be- donating the paint sounds like a wonderful idea.
Donating is always good, but you can keep a small jar for possible touch ups. Try going some splashy abstract painted wall pieces. You might just be a budding artist. One technique that is fun is to coat an area of a large plastic sheeting with assorted colors of paint and then lay into that area a canvas. Pat and rub the back of the canvas to more the paint and when you pull up the canvas you just "might" have something fun. If not let it dry and try again.
Thanks for the ideas!
Thanks, Rachel! I think the main problem is my wife and I not correctly estimating the amount we need. We will sometimes buy gallons of paint when we could have gone with a smaller amount -- a quart, say. I like the idea of storing a small amount for touch ups. You're right about the colors. Basics would be easy to repurchase.
Great idea!
You can add acrylic artist paint to it to change the colour of it if you want to use it r smaller jobs upcycling or craft
Thanks!
Run ad in Craig list and sell for a few dollars a can & people will buy it. What's left give it away.
Great idea! Thanks! The county I live in has a FB page for selling used stuff. I might could try that also.
Our local recycling center takes usable leftover paint and resells it very cheaply. It is also a good place to check for paint if you need a small amount. Lots of variety. The center also takes unusable paint to dispose of it properly but there is a $2.00 per gallon charge for this. Still inexpensive enough to have it properly disposed of.
Thanks! I'll see if we have something similar here.
Call your recycling center to se what they do with left over paint. Sometimes they mix it all together and sell it to Habitat to paint houses. You could also call Habitat to see if they can use it. FYI--will the store take it back??
Thanks for the tip!
