Replace sliding glass door ideas

I have typical 18 year old sliding glass doors (71 inches) that open onto our deck from the kitchen. What is the most energy efficient option? I was thinking about French doors, but I'd like to incorporate a doggie door into it. So maybe a traditional exterior door, but what could be done with the extra room. Any thoughts would be appreciated. I did have one of the doggie door panels for sliding glass doors, but it wasn't energy efficient at all. Help!

  • I hear you on the energy efficient doggy doors! We have one and it lets in the air LOL We are going to put the doggy door in the outside wall next to the patio door. I love patio doors because I love light and live surrounded by 60' oaks. the new sliding doors are more energy efficient than those years ago. I have had french doors and it seemed that we were always having air gaps and adjusting the hinges every spring/summer. Good luck on your choices but check into putting the doggy door in the wall that way you do not have to mess with the doors.

Thanks @The Garden Frog with C Renee . I agree 100% w/the outside wall idea. But the only place we'd be able to use the exterior wall would mean having the dog go through a kitchen cabinet...and don't think I haven't considered it!
