I am also thinking that is not right for real leather. Now my ex-hubby has the big-guy recliner with all the bells and whistles made out of re-engineered leather. He is a big guy and naturally gives it wear and tear with normal use...add in football and baseball games and it really takes a beating. It does show wear now on the arms (and he also rests his elbows there while using his laptop), but he's had it for at least 5 years, and it's been moved twice.
So, if you say it stretched, does it look like fabric/fiber after it cracked? Sounds like not leather to me...
I found a website which tells you how to restore and repair leather, and they also sell the supplies. I don't know what the rules on here are about sharing a website so I just say start with the usual www and then put in rubnrestore and then end with the dot com. Look on their opening page for one which leads you to leather restoration. I don't have any connection with this business, but I did buy a leather dye from them. Good luck!
