Want an easy holiday décor idea that also makes a nice hostess gift? This project is so easy you may want to make a few.
I saw this small white plastic trashcan in my local Family Dollar Store, and knew I could use it for a project. It was last year right before Christmas, and the container was very cheap. Any small or medium sized white plastic container would work - even a basket. Look for something like this...
Embellish the container with holiday themed tissue or wrapping paper. I like using plaid or with a design with an easily cut horizontal line. You could cover the entire bin, but I liked the way the white background with holiday plaid looked as trim.
Once I measured and cut the paper and decided where on the bin I would place it, I painted on a coat of Triple Thick glaze (my 'go to' product!), placed the paper, then applied another coat over the paper, making sure to cover the edges. Triple Thick dries fairly quickly, but I would give it overnight before continuing.
Best product ever!
Once the trim paper has dried overnight, fill the container with shatterproof glass or metal ornaments with a string of white lights or fairy lights.
This would look great with blue and silver for Hanukkah, or if you wanted to make it even easier, tie a wide holiday ribbon around the bin and glue it into place (so the ribbon doesn't slide down).
It looks beautiful when the lights are low, and the ornaments and lights shine through.

Thank you! I thought it turned out pretty as well, an it truly was so easy to make! And cheap! I made a similar basket years ago, with a wicker basket, pine cones and lights, and a plaid ribbon secured around the basket. I dragged that thing out every Christmas for years, and received so many positive comments from friends and family.

Very pretty, I love the fairy light idea. I have a small plastic opaque container I found at work that they were going to throw away and thought, ya know I could do something with this, lol.
