Can someone explain to me the value of using Annie Sloane chalk paint? I have seen in photos the results but it seems to me the same effect could be achieved with most paints. Is this paint more chip resistant? I appreciate your help.

you can paint without priming but it does chip. you can make home made chalk paint or just use latex and seal. I have had beautiful results using stain and wax instead of poly

I love, love, love ASCP. I prefer "historic" color schemes (whether European or American) and the color combinations that can be had with mixing the colors are really unsurpassed by other products. It is a choice and for my money, time and end product I find ASCP to be worth the investment. ASCP can be distressed but it doesn't necessarily "chip." If you want the chippy look you probably want Milk Paint and I do not use it for that reason.

I learned to paint with Maison Blanche paints and have always bee very happy except for the color limitations. I have recently started using General Finishes which I LOVE!!! The application is smooth, it does dry fast though. It as a great colored glaze as well as a finishing top coat. Great company so far, no complaints. If you are just beginning, try making your own with calcium carbonate. This way you can choose and customize your own colors which my main goal.
