Either put ice on it leaving on long enough to make really hard to be able to scrape off or the reverse put a cloth over the seater and use a hot iron for a few minutes until the glue melts to pull off.
Can you post a picture? Depending on the material of the sweater, you'll need to proceed with caution.
You don't want to burn or melt your fabric but you may be able to put the whole sweater into the freezer and wait a few hours. Once your sure that the glue is frozen you should be able to sandwich your sweater between two pieces of scrap material and just shatter it off with a hammer. Shake the crumbly bits off your sweater and keep your fingers crossed that it removed a majority and that you can safely remove the remainder with a sweater shaver.
Save your clothes and buy an apron or better yet, make one!
Good luck!
hydrogen peroxide. I do upholstery and when i get a layer of glue that gets into the fibers, I dip a q-tip in hydrogen peroxide and rub gently then use tweezers to pull out the glue. Peroxide is usually colorfast too. If it is just a clump, gently pull it off.
