Z on Nov 16, 2013Yes, a picture of what you are wanting to cover and the shutters you're wanting to cover it would be more helpful. I love the tin back spash though.Helpful Reply

Elaine Simmons on Nov 17, 2013I feel like there is too much going on in this room. I would paint the red cupboards a neutral so the faux tile can take center stage. But I have always liked the metalics and looks like you did a great job.Helpful Reply

Robin @ Redo It Yourself Inspirations on Nov 17, 2013I agree, the red with the geometric design on the tile and the flooring are too busy. Couple of ideas: Keep the white on the cabinets and paint the cabinet doors a solid color to match the beautiful counter top. If you change the cabinets doors to a solid deep beige, it would be really sleek looking. Or paint the cabinets entirely of black and change out the hardware to a silver tone color to go with your back splash. Beautiful job on the stove top, counter and back splash.Helpful Reply

Diane Lowen on Nov 17, 2013I am tired of the neutral look for everything. I think the red doors are a great contrast for the tin backsplash, which looks really good. However, the floor does cause a busy look in the room. That could be changed to something more neutral, maybe a tile similar in color to the countertop.Helpful Reply

Karen on Nov 17, 2013Here's a simple suggestion that might do the trick. Paint the entire cabinet the same as the doors. Then it will flow better than so many different things to keep your eye on. LOVE the tin. My sister did her kitchen but because she has a marroon counter top and warm colors we suggested copper. Looks fabulous.Helpful Reply

Robin Taylor on Nov 17, 2013I'm about to put these up in my kitchen. I love the contrast with the red cabinets (my favorite color!). I'm also going to spray my ugly blue formica countertops with the new stainless steel paint in an attempt to make them look better on my teensy budget. I just may add the red to my cabinet doors! Thanks for the great idea!!!Helpful Reply

Anna Ibarra on Nov 17, 2013I have always loved tin for backsplash. I also agree that the eye is too busy on trying to focus. Painting the cabinets to a neutral color or the same as the beige would be a start. I also feel the tin is not complimenting the floor print. Can you give more pics of what you are trying to hide. I love those cabinets, so vintage and great look. I wouldn't paint them red though. I love red, but not with the floor print and the tin. It's too much. But good luck and it's nice to get a different set of eyes, isn't it. I often question myself. Good luck.Helpful Reply

Sabren on Nov 17, 2013just another idea, what if you paint the cabinets a light gray / blue something that would go with the tin and the floor. so there isn't so many colors in the room. The counters could be painted too, they look very dated. Great job on the back wall!!!Helpful Reply

CindyandGeorge Schaeffer on Nov 19, 2013I hope this doesn't sound TOO "tacky" but I have a limited budget. I would have a professional cabinet company come in and give a free estimate so that I could obtain their "professional opinion" and see if that gives you some direction or ideas. I believe if you tell them you are looking to do a complete renovation but like your tile backsplash they will even include flooring etc. Signed, Tacky in Palm BayHelpful Reply

Lisa on Nov 20, 2013Appreciate all your honest opinions! It helps to think of the many alternatives~ Money is tight, so have now considered painting the cabinet doors, possibly slate blue or maybe a grey, however that will have to be a summer project! As I will take them all off the hinges & paint outside.Helpful Reply

Lynn Zawojski on Nov 26, 2013A lot going on red ,blue floor, granite I'd keep the most expensive and try to paint the cabinets charcoal gray and be brave and paint the vinyl floor. Yes you can make it solid or do a pattern around the edge . so many ideas to even make look them look like boards or marble. The gray would be nice against the tinHelpful Reply

Cherie on Jul 02, 2014If you paint your cabinet doors any color other than the matching color of the cabinets, you'll end up with the same problem. Your doors take away from the beauty of the tin! Also, the electric outlet is painted that same red color - it should be silver to blend out with the wall. Not trying to be mean, just hard to look at your picture and not see the doors. Put your hand over your doors in the picture and see how the tin then really shows up well.Helpful Reply
