Greens and Winterberry Holly Décor at the Small House
by
White Oak Studio Designs
(IC: professional)
You know how I like a natural, rustic and vintage look for our rurally located Small House....This week I gathered juniper and white pine branches as well as Winterberry Holly and began to design some of our outdoor décor. It feels a bit odd to have holiday colors out with no snow, but it won't be long until the white stuff comes to SW Michigan. It was pleasant to have a nice day to go into the forest to hunt and gather rather than battle the freezing cold and snow! All the details of the "hunt," and more photographs can be found on my blog at http://smallhouseunderabigsky.wordpress.com

White Oak Studio Designs on Nov 19, 2013Not sure where you live or what is native in your area. But in general go to the woods and look. We drive around in the woods all year long and scout these out ahead of time. Winterberry Holly for example love water/wetlands so for these I need to go to the wetlands. If going to the woods is not for you, often times shops, Christmas shows and sales and the like often sell bunches of local greens and such this time of year. Good luck!

White Oak Studio Designs on Nov 19, 2013Guess I am not too surprised, though sadened. Time are so hard that folks are forced to do things they might otherwise not do. (Though theft is never excused!) I know that metal has been at an all time high and lots of copper wires and other metals are being recycled for cash. I will be on guard!
