there are many ideas out there, one that I liked is using old costume brooches, you can use them over and over

I just brush

some Elmer's or Modge Podge on the candle - either all over it, or in a design, and sprinkle glitter on it. The candle glows through the design as the it burns down.....

If you have mismatched post earrings do this: Holding the earring with needlenose pliers, hold the post in a candle flame until very hot. Then push the post into the candle with the pliers. Watch at tag sales and collect bargain earrings.

They make wax type markers for candles. Try Amazon or a big name craft store. They also sell candle pins, much like tacks.
