In less than four minutes, you can turn Christmas tree castoffs into usable DIY holiday decor.
This Sunday, Mr. D&D and I had some fun “finishing up” the outdoor Christmas dec. I get the lights up early…but I don’t finish until the first week in December.
Why? I’m waiting for the (nearly) free Christmas decorations.
You know those lovely fresh pine swags that are $20 -$50 dollars at the tree stores? You can make your own…for free (plus whatever supplies you have on hand)…in about four minutes!
I usually visit the tree cutting station at one of the big box stores on a weekend or Monday and ask if I can take some of the trimmed-off branch cuttings.

As long as you don't make a mess, the clerks are happy to have you take them.
filled my window boxes and a couple of planters (and added white lights),
made lighted swags for my five upstairs windows,
and had enough leftovers for Mr. D&D’s outdoor manger project.
decorate and DONE! I kept mine fairly simple, using only a store-bought pick and a bow at the center. Since they’ll be on second story windows, a lot of smaller details like berries and pinecones, etc, won’t show up from the street…so I skip ’em.

Last year. I used pine branches in my hanging planters; with white lights and red ribbon they were a lovely decoration on our front porch.

Virginia on Jan 07, 2017I love those ice skates! Many years ago, I went to a thrift store and found a pair of white ice skates. They were in horrible condition. I removed the laces. Taped the blades and spray painted the ice skates white. Then I re-laced the skates with red ribbon. Hung them on a swag just like this one with a red bow. Your swag with ice skates brought back so many memories.
