Has anyone painted wooden doors and not the frames?

I have not done this but it sounds to me like it would be fine, especially if it is a light color. Should be easy to lift the door off the hinges, prime, paint, hang it back up and voila! Painting the trim would take longer since you'll need to tape everything off...
Why not take some cardboard and double sided tape and cut to the size you want for the door. Paint it and tape it up. That way you can see if you like it.
Painting a door and not the trim would just look off. Either the door or trim would stand out, depending on perspective. You can try painting a door and leave the trim and see how it looks. Never seen this combination.
In 1984 we bought a big 2-story Tudor that was brand new, where we lived for 20 yrs and raised our family. All the rooms upstairs had white painted woodwork and doors. The main floor had white woodwork, but the doors were a walnut stain. I had never seen such a mix before, but it was beautiful. So I suppose you can do it a variety of ways.
I have painted the doors and trim and it changed the look so much for the better in my case as I hate wood tone trim. I actually hired someone who DIDN'T PRIME, and take my word for it, you need to prime. I agree with William but you could try one, see what you think but br prepared to keep on painting.
Yup, I've done it both ways in same room. Door's vs windows and I even mixed wood species between door and trim.
It's interesting and eclectic. Way better than hollow core doors.
I couldn't get more than 1 pic per comment.
And finally pic of mixed wood. Not traditional decorating but it works fine. Most people dont get bugged about the little stuff. It's more the whole pic/room ambiance they notice.
I recently bought a 75 year old house. All the doors (interior) are the original walnut stained and all the trim and baseboards are white. I love the look.
