What can I use for sound dampening?

Laurie Hornberger on Nov 20, 2013We have a great room- living room, dining room, and kitchen all in one, with high ceilings. We had the same problem with the acoustics. We could hardly hear the TV. Our solution came when my husband and son bought and installed surround sound speakers. Problem solved!Helpful Reply

Valerie on Nov 21, 2013You can purchase special acoustic lining for curtains, I know it definitely helps with keeping traffic noises out, so maybe it would help in your situation.Helpful Reply

The Garden Frog with C Renee on Nov 21, 2013Sometimes adding fabric, tapestry, drapes, and rugs can help soften the room and help with the acoustics. Adding the drapes will help as Valeria stated; and as Laurie stated surround sound is great too. Adding beautiful tapestry on the wall may help too if you have an old quilt or heirloom to hang. Good luckHelpful Reply

Dianne on Nov 22, 2013Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I was planning on area rugs on the hardwood floor. I didn't know that there was special acoustic lining for curtains. I will have to look for that. I love the idea of a tapestry on the wall. I have a large wall that it would be perfect on.Helpful Reply

Kate McComas on Nov 22, 2013Tall plants like ficus trees or palms will help and you could also use a FIT Soji screen made from cloth to both privatize a smaller more intimate area as well as a absorb some of the sound...Helpful Reply
