How can I make my ceilings look higher? I have the typical, old fashion 8 foot ceilings in my den. How/what can I do to make it look like I have higher ceilings?

An easy was is to paint vertical stripes on your wall ā€“ all one colour but with different sheens ā€“ strips 4 inches wide work best. Then hand your picture about 6 inches lower than usual and use low furniture. Creating an optical illusions of more pace to the ceiling.

I once saw this really cool trick in a living room where they painted a frame around the ceiling in the same colors as the walls, it made the walls feel taller and the ceiling higher. It was really cool.

I've read that white ceilings + low furniture give the illusion of a high ceiling!

try hanging your drapes about 1" from the ceiling. You may need longer drapes to do this.

Thank you! I was thinking of just getting rid of curtains, there is only one window in the den, and getting shutters. Letting more light in I think will help too.
