You should use a primer Kilz or Zinser are well know brands.
Definitely prime! Seals the drywall and will make your finish color more vibrant.
family has a painting business which has been passed down to oldest son.
this is standard procedure for our company. Once drywall has been finished and sanded well use a tack cloth to remove any dust from the surface.
next apply 1 coat of Kiltz or Zinser primer allow to dry then lightly sand back over the primed drywall. Wipe with tack cloth to remove the dust the apply the 2nd coat of primer and lightly sand and wipe with a tack cloth as before.
this allows for the primer to dry in between coats and the extra standings helps smooth out any flaws in the drywall.
once the priming is completed, you can begin applying your paint color wall choice.
enjoy!
When walls are prepped well, the result is a baby smooth wall with hardly no flaws seen.
hope this helps! Enjoy!
