Wow what a touching a beautiful thing to do. Michaels sells great boxes to use as a shadow box.
Go to a Michaels or any craft hobby type store and just buy a shadowbox frame. They have space between the glass and backboard so you can display items with depth rather than just a flat picture. Of course you could have it done at a framing shop but just get the shadowbox frame and you could do it yourself.
Shadowbox would give the most protection. If any 'paperwork' came with it that should also be displayed.
My dad many years ago bought a picture frame and lined it with a velvet material to display all his military medals and the purple hear he received when he was wounded in WWII. Hope this idea works for you. Thank your beau for his service to our country.
Don’t forget to add a military photo of his dad, maybe some printed titles of the era, a small flag (open or folded), some crafting stars and use a dark blue or green velvet fabric background over a foam board (easier to stick pins in). There were lots of ideas on those Pinterest post above. If all else fails take some of the items to a local framer or craft store i.e. Michaels and ask for suggestions.
P.S. any baby picture of him & dad? If all that is too much, get a small desk top frame so he can keep it on his work or home desk. Good Luck
If using a shadow box cover the back with velvet.
Check the Army Navy stores for a uniform shirt from that time, or one like it.
Add Dads name and rank. Pin the Purple Heart to it and display it like they do for professional ball players jerseys.
