What kind of light do you suggest?

Our dining table is shoved to the corner of our small kitchen. The only lighting is in the center, which isn't enough light for the dining table. I would LOVE some slightly industrial, Edison-style pendant. My husband doesn't think it would work. I also fear the pendant lights will get hit with projectiles thrown by youngsters from the living room. Recessed lighting might seem like the answer, but I think with the light so high, it would project shadows as well. Plus they are kind of boring. Would love some thoughts as I have the electrician coming out next week. )

Chandelier!!!! They are beautiful in almost any room...have even seen them in a laundry room....I also read that they should be hung with the bottom of the light 30" from the table.....all this info came from Hometalk!!

some track lighting on the wall next to the vent...pendant is nice but the fan defines the space differently..

I think a small table lamp on your table for when you need task lighting then you can remove it for dinner if Theresa not

I LOVE that pendant light. What about placing it so that it is on a swag, the chain of which would be running along the corner; it could then be swagged to center over the table, and then it will be out of the way and over your table. I think the look of this pendant works beautifully with your room, and also feel the "swag" look with it will only enhance your room....

I have a similar issue in my kitchen, and I also love that pendant light - provided that the scale of it isn't overwhelming the space; wish I could swap lights around to see what works best for us too!

I love the pendant light you have considered. Question: Do you absolutely NEED the fan light in the kitchen. If you don't need the fan for dispersing heat, you might consider changing that fixture to new track lighting that would work with the pendant. They make S curved track that would tie in with the pendant and you can adjust the lights to spot where you need them.

I like the pendant too. If you hand it just above the table. . . I think the measurement is supposed to be 18", but you can double check that. . . it wouldn't be in conflict with the ceiling fan in the kitchen area.

I hate having so much "stuff" on/in the ceiling. . . mine is like that too. If money and/or the work are not an issue I would remove the lite from the fan and perhaps use some small pot lights focused on the work areas.

i would ansolutely recommend changing out the fan/light to directional track lighting and then use a pendant over the table or another two-head track light over there.

You have a lot going on visually with your ceiling as is let alone adding another fixture so close to the existing fan and vent...don't you hate that? I absolutely LOVE the pendant light but those two other fixtures (especially the fan/light) are so-o big and overpowering that they will definitely overpower the pendant. I can't see the whole layout and size of your kitchen so this may not work but #1) if you don't need the big fan for light or circulation, get rid of it OR #2) if you still need the big fan for circulation and it's feasible to do, you might try to relocate just the fan further down toward the far end of the room (where I assume the photographer was standing) so that it isn't so visually close to the pendant and exhaust. Once the fan is relocated or removed completely, go back to its original location and install a smaller, flatter, non-pendant type light fixture. DeMarie had a good lighting suggestion but if you prefer something other than canned or track lighting there are certainly lots of options. Try to find something in style, size and color that will not scream 'look at me' and visually detract from the beautiful pendant fixture but will still give you the light source you need over the right side of room. Then get your pendant! Good luck.

What is it about ceiling fans and oak cabinets that husbands are so opposed to changing in kitchens????? If hubby absolutely will not let you get rid of the ceiling fan, then change it out for a ceiling fan that is more industrial looking to go with the pendant lights you love. The white ceiling fan is just too fussy for the other lighting choice you want for your kitchen. Something similar to the fan below would look great with your pendants.

Love your lighting choice. You might want to up date the lighting on the fan to match using the same type of bulbs and outdoor wire light covers.You could also paint ant of the metal part to match the light fixture, or change color of blades for a color pop.

I removed the blades off my ceiling fan as we never turned it on any ways. The blades in my mind were nothing but dust collectors. It actually made a huge difference to the fixture. You could maybe put some recessed lighting up there and it would not be in conflict with the ceiling fan.
