Annie Sloan chalk paint is an affordable idea, especially if you are still using it as a functional sewing table.
I recently painted mine white and changed out the knobs--totally changed the look.
You can try using gel stain and change out the hardware.
Ikea has these desks that you build from pieces I got a top meant to hide a laptop in it and put that on top of the base I owned. I keep the sewing machine on top but when I want to cut fabric I push the sewing machine back flip the top open and have a cutting board inside.

that desk top. I also keep my cutting tools inside. There is just enough room on the back for my singer to sit when I open it up.
I recently purchased a used table - circa 1950s - at a resale shop for $30. I sanded it, painted it with a white primer, then used my quilting templates to paint designs on the outside. The flip area - always open in my craft room, I painted with a 1" grid. My modern machine needed a bit less room then the original machine it was made for, so I had to add supports for it inside the hole. It can be easily switched to another machine, but can no longer be closed within.
You can buy a door at a flea market, n repurpose it as a sewing table.
