How can I paint a white shiny wall board in my bathroom?
Our bathroom has shiny wallboard with lots of nail holes. I am wondering what kind of paint would work best or maybe it would be best to just get new wall board !!
If you just want to paint, you need to wash the walls, prime them with Kilz, Bin, or Zinsser primer, then paint.
...OR... You could spray the walls with water like you would with a popcorn ceiling, let it sit for a few, then scrape it off with a wide putty knife. Just hope the paint that is there is acceptable to the water soak..
Doug, do you think that would work? I've never tried to remove a popcorn sand finish on a wall before.
You have several possibilities. You could be trying to use latex over oil based paint or visa versa. Latex enamel is NOT oil base. If your home was built in 50's or early 60's your walls are probably not popcorn but sand plaster. You can not scrape it off; you can have it smooth coated or sand it off. The walls could also have a build up of a variety of spray products ie: hairspray, deodorant, etc. I grew up in a sand plastered home & have owned two of my own. i've flipped 8 houses and do all my own painting so l've painted over just about everything.
