Every houseplant need a shadow or light for growing good.. same important as water. I could try Pothos and Spider plant. Those are quick growing and they survive in dark areas or by windows.

I kill everything that comes into my home, with the exception of a pothos my husband owned before we married. I neglect it, forget to water it, go through spurts of over watering, and have only changed the soil twice!....It has been subjected to my abuse for over 20 years!

House plants are not hard to maintain provided they are given the proper light and water. What have you tried? Do you have enough light?

Most plants are killed with "kindness" overwatering is usually the main culprit, make sure you choose a plant for the position you want to put it in, some love the sun others like dappled light and a few are quite happy in shade or even darker places. Spider plants are fairly easy and you can plant on the babies it throws off, if you don't want to risk cutting them off, put a small pot with some compost in and put the small plants into the soil they will easily take root and you can cut the link later. Kalanshow, I'm not sure of the spelling, is a succulent with long lasting red or yellow flowers, it's sometimes called Flaming Katy it needs very little water or light. Good luck there are several good suggestions in the posts x

Sanseveria, aka. snake plant. will take you a generaton to kill one. Also go to your local nursery, they are the pros, not a kmart clerk.

Pothos is the only thing I haven't managed to kill yet.

Sanseveria good. So is pothos, philodendron. Chinese evergreen. Remember: right plant for the right place. how much light is there? Direct sun? Bright window?

I couldn't kill my mother-in-law tongue (or snake plan, by its' other name) if I tried. It's been neglected, abused, dropped, over & under watered, left in the dark, left in bright sun, cut, mangled.....well you get the picture. Despite my neglect & abuse, that 20 yr old plant just continues to love me, bring me joy, and gives me new tongues every so often so I believe it might be a successful plant for anyone. Also, did I mention just how beautiful the tongues are ? Good luck and please don't call the Plant Police on me after my horrible confession. I promise to be kinder to it in 2017.

I too have had a mother in law's tongue for around 36 years, it thrives in spite of me rather than with care, it needs more compost now and might be better split but when I do that finding someone else to take the cutting can be hard. It can be difficult to support as the leaves are very hard and sharp, it is well named!! I have to confess though that having moved house last August I have managed to kill off a lovely Ivy plant through lack of light and water but have saved my spider plant (I think) Not sure if I will replace Ivy as the situation is not the best place and of course Ivy needs to hang down so was on top of my bookcase in the hallway.

Try pathos. I've had 2 shoots from my Moms Mother plant. They produced two beautiful, full plants with little care. Now I have the Mother plant & used it for my Christmas tree this yepar! Great plants!

I have an indoor Peace Lily for many years, now its root bound and water just runs down the sides on to the floor. So, I give it 2 trays of Ice Cubes, arrange it in between the stems and this waters the roots gradually and the plant does not wilt for water anymore !. I also give my indoor plants weak tea solution about once a month The acidity perks them up.

Hi there! I personally have a hard time remembering when to water my little plants! My solution was to build a terrarium where my plants can have their own little ecosystem and I only have to water once or twice a year!
