Hi Kellie! It really depends on where you're looking to save space and organize. We have a whole section on Hometalk for Organizing- http://www.hometalk.com/categories/organizing
Happy Hometalking!
I find that hooks are the second best invention right after the wheel. I get the over-the-door hooks with the baskets on them, and utilize them for many things. In the kitchen...pot holders, mitts, aprons, cookie cutters, utensils and more. In the craft room...well where do i begin. I have jars of buttons, measuring tape, mini patterns and so much more.
In the living room, I use them for cute little hangings and mini teddies, miniature sun catchers, etc.
In the bathroom they are even more handy. I once had the "vhs" door hanger with all my "ugly" stuff. I live alone and my bathroom is pretty, so I don't close my doors. I now have a pocket door but when had the hanger I had medicine, toiletries, soaps and shower things, my needles and sharps container up high, etc.
I even had one in the hallway with all my summer decorations on it.
By the door is my fav' place for them. Keys, purse, pet leashes, anything you need to keep up off the floor and remember when you leave.
Hope that helps!!
Are you organizing or saving space, where and what room?
A nice old man once told me "if you can not build out, build up". That's exactly what I have done. The rooms in my house are very small and this works like a charm.
My best idea is to go through your things and donate/discard things you don't LOVE. The more you pare down your things, the more space you'll have to store the things you really want!
Get rid of anything you don't use even if it was a wedding gift! Go room through room and do the box thing, donate or throw away. Then focus on where it is you need space and see it in a different light. I finally after 28 yrs of carrying around China donated it to a church rummage sale and I am constantly going through clothes and donating it because by the time I fit in it ,it won't be in style. I got rid of a lot because we went from a house with unfinished basement loaded with this stuff to a home with a shed. No reason to hold onto the past, live in the present and when you purge it is freeing. If you have to store something unless it's a seasonal decrative item why keep it? If you have children once the youngest uses the hand me downs ,donate. I allowed myself one small plastic container with their coming home outfit their favorite blanket and a few other items, that's it and know in their room. I loved it all but not practical. So purge be free and find the space you need but only get things that you need into home or this is just a hoarders cycle!
Hang things on the wall behind doors, especially flat things. It's usually lost space anyways, so use it.
Look for extra space in places you wouldn't normally use.
Put shelves above doorway or windows or to the side of a door. On pinterest I've seen people store shoes in the place behind a door. I used to store my children's toys and books above the windows and doors.
You can use curtain poles and shower curtain hooks to store things that hang. Vegetable hanging baskets also are useful.
