5 Best Dairy Goat Breeds for the Homestead

After chickens, goats are one of the most popular animals to add to the homestead. But with all the different breeds which one is best for you? Here is a quick look at the top 5 breeds for a small farm.
You should ask yourself a few questions before choosing your breed- such as how much milk you will need and how much space do you have to devote to goats.
Do you care about the butterfat content? (Creamier milk makes for better cheese!)
Once you've answered these questions you can start looking at the different breeds: Saanen, Alpine, Nubian, Nigerian Dwarf, and LaMancha
