Stain for White Oak Floors - what is it made of?

Spheramid Enterprises on Dec 04, 2013It very well could be Artist oil paint mixed with oil based poly, or acrylic art paint with water based poly. it's not uncommon in wood finishing to tint all kinds of top coats, lacquer gets a dye or a product called trans-tint that is dilutable in lac. thinner and alcohol for work with shellac. If what he does works, I'd not question it too severely. Now obviously oil and water mix would be an issue so ya can't just add latex paint to oil based poly. I'm guessing this is a "pickled" oak finish that he is creating? There are many ways to achieve that , I would warn that the oil poly will have more amber color and can look kinda yellow-ish compared to a water clear , water based poly.Helpful Reply
