How about a wrought iron garden gate and put them on this for display..or a grate of any kind...check out Michael's they have lots of stuff to hang photos on or frame them for a beautiful display on a wall in different frames.
My friend has a frame that is see-through and glass on both sides. She hung it as a sort of divider and they can be viewed from both sides. If there's an interesting message on the backside or location she didn't put another postcard behind it so you could read it.
I had a lot of old favorite photos & didn't want them tucked away in albums so I got a piece of glass (which is cheaper then plex-glass) cut the size of my coffee table in my den & placed the pics. underneath. Lots of people have complimented me & done the same thing at their homes! Good luck, Carole
Here's a really easy project I created to display postcards (or Christmas cards!). It's super easy, and I get lots of compliments-- plus I love reliving all my travels.

I have heard of this idea before but I don't have a coffee table. I was wondering about doing something on a wall. Anyone ever done something like that before?
I rather like this idea and I do have places I could arrange something like this. I do however have hundreds of cards and I would like to make use of more at one time. I could sort them and create themes which would be fun and decorative. Thanks. I am sure one idea will be the right one or close to it. Always good to have lots of ideas to with and from.
Shutters with the cute decor clothes pins.. hang them at different angles... then hang the shutter on a wall.... Another thing I saw years ago was a wallpaper like border in a den with a global theme..If you have a huge amount.. use them as a collage on a wall, overlap the edges again at different angles a random sort of way... cute for a laundry room .. It would destroy the cards for later but what fun to think of travel and memories and not laundry.. please post some pics when done..
My mother wanted to do something like this also, but we copies the cards so they wouldnt get destroyed, and then she decoupaged them on an old trunk
No need to throw away you can make up a collage and take like ones together so if you have winter ones you can switch out with season. And you can make cards with them and share with the people you love. If you sew you can have them transfered onto fabric and make very simple quilt and you can stitch the place and persons name on each square. Card making would be so much fun with approximate embellishments. You can make ornaments for your Christmas tree trimming them with matching ribbon. Heck you can make placement cards so people know where to seat. Frame some in those frames that hold multiple photos and then you won't damage them in a collage with mogpog. And you can pick the ones that you can change them out with cards for every season and that would be easier. Or change out by locations you were. Obviously you have a lot of them so that's why I thought cards would help with some.
Thanks for the ideas.
Using thumbtacks at the corners of the cards would keep them on the wall for your border if you did not want them to be ruined by gluing them up.
Good idea. Thanks. It appears that you are in Kansas. Is there lots going on there with the eclipse? Kansas is to have the longest viewing of about 2 minutes and 30 seconds. We are going to the coast, Newport, Oregon to view this event.
well i did a large cork board wit pic`s and post cards..everyone loves it...but it has push pins ..i painted frame torquoise
That is a good idea too.
Purchase lightweight cord or narrow ribbon...use thumbtacks to drape it across a wall, or wherever, like one would hang a clothesline. At craft stores, purchase mini-clothespins that are about 1". Hang the postcards along the cord or ribbon like you would hang clothes...easy to change or re-arrange and does not damage cards. My niece does this with her children's art work...Everyone notices and easy to update or hang cards in theme groups, by state, city or county.

What a great share. Thank you. Lots of ideas.
I don't know, but if I had all those postcards, I'd also want to know who sent them and when. If you put them up on display, you'll never see the messages on the back. I think I'd put them in an album as you would pictures with the front and backs showing.
Most of them I bought, but yes some were sent to me. I could sort those out and then decide. I haven't looked at hem for awhile but retirement is in a few months and this project is something I have always wanted to do.
I saw a guest bathroom wall covered with postcards. Similar to using wall paper, but instead use postcards
Good idea for guest bathroom or a mud room bathroom.
Decoupage them onto the top of a dresser or table. Color copy them so both sides can be used.
Colour copying is a great idea. Thanks.
I think photo albums would do that. The pages are double sided, you can leave them on your coffee table for guest to thumb through.
Yes, others have suggested this idea too. Thanks.
you could put them in a frame, or get them printed onto a cushion cover, bedspread, if you get them printed of onto a cushion you could have one
with the postcards on and one with the messages on it.
If some of the post cards are really old Check to see if they are or similar ones are on internet. A lot of post cards are very valuable . Don't ruin them . Place in picture album. Can also place in the frames that are two sided glass that have clips that hold them together. If just ok postcards and are pretty decoupage them on table top and put several layers on top. Did something similar on a wall with magazine covers .Could never get them off. Ruined wall had to replace sheetrock then paint whole bathroom.
If you want to keep them intact, I've used vintage valentine cards or post cards on my shirted tables. Lay them out over the shirt, then cover with the round glass. Protects them forever.
Sending you a few inspiration photos.

I have a huge selection of postcards as well and have wondered the same thing. I have postcards, for example, from Mt. St. Helens before it errupted and destroyed everything in the postcard pictures. Small pictures on postcards are easily over-looked on their own
I'd considered framing and grouping them together to produce interesting little "stories." For example, the Mt. St. Helens postcards I would frame along with a copy of a newspaper article about the erruption and maybe some pictures from after the erruption.
I like the photo album idea except few people really want to see photo albums and they'd mostly be dust gatherers. If they were framed and hung about the house in ways to make them more interesting, they'd get more notice. You can also group them in frames to match the decor subject of your rooms. Have a country theme, for example? Group together farm themed cards. Print off copies of old seed packets to add in the mix.
A single postcard with a computer and printer can provide some creative and interesting results. Song lyrics or poems related to a picture an be printed out in an interesting font. For the country theme, print out the lyrics to John Denver's "Country Roads".
Or take a single post card, copy it on your computer, then enlarge it in black and white or sepia colors , print it off and frame it with the original post card in the center. The possibilities are endless. Make a bunch of different ones and alternate your pictures with the seasons to keep it fresh. No one said they all have to be displayed at once.
Even if you go for the photo album idea, these ideas could bring more interest to your cards displayed in an album. It's not expensive or too hard to do and there's plenty of good free software to copy and manipulate your cards to make each one stand out on its own or in small grouped arrangements. Dried pressed flowers, old maps, or small trinkets can add even more interest to your displays.
It's no problem at all. I've been considering these ideas for myself. I've been trying to figure out something to make for my kitchen using old silverware hammered flat and an old menu. The closest thing I have is a group of promotional postcards from an olive company...not quite what I had in mind. I need to get something like old roadside diners.
I started collecting postcards as a child. We took a cross-country trip when I was little and postcards were the easiest souvenirs I could get at almost any stop along the way. It was my only trip out of the country as well (we went to White Rock, Canada just south of Vancouver.) The town seemed to consist of a gas station/convenience store. It wasn't much of a trip into Canada but we were out of the US for about 1/2 hour, LOL.
I've had numerous penpals over the years that would send me postcards from around the world so I have quite a collection overall . I just need more wall space.
I put my postcards from traveling out west under glass on my coffee table. It looks nice and i look at them all the time.
I once saw a border done up with post cards but they hung them from a strip of ribbon put around the room and attached them with clothes pins. I do the same with Christmas pictures but attach them with tiny hair clips.
i have an old door. it comes out and a screen door goes in . now the window has 20 4x6 small panels in it. i would find something similar and display them behind the glass . Hang it above your sofa or possible on a bare wall in sight of front door. What a conversation piece that would be .leave the door aged as it is or paint for fresh look.
I bought jute and small clothespins and hung the jute vertically at different lengths, and pinned the postcards to it. That way folks can turn over the postcards and see the back as well.
