Starr Hubbs on Dec 03, 2013We've had people come to our door that cut trees and looking for work and we have had very good work from them. I ask for references and if they had cut trees around the neighborhood.Helpful Reply

Jeanette S on Dec 04, 2013I am so sorry you got stuck with a back deal. I never hire people who come to my door. I also check references and make sure they have workmens insurance and I NEVER PAY IN FULL UNTIL THE JOB IS COMPLETE. I just cannot afford to pay the medical bills if people get hurt on my property....your homeowner's insurance does not cover workmen getting paid!Helpful Reply

Leslie T on Dec 04, 2013They aren't returning phone calls now, so no more time for them! I called another company out and they are coming tomorrow morning. They require payment AFTER the service is complete.. not prior. Thanks for the advice everyone!Helpful Reply

Corvera Outdoor Living By Design on Dec 05, 2013sorry about your ordeal! try landscapenetwork, Angie list, or on internet under tree removal. to balance your cost I would get up to ten bids but this would be unfair to contractor so I think you would need to be upfront on what you are doing to see if they are willing to come by and give you a free bid , good luck!!!! and try not work with one or two man show..... normally they under bid to get jobs and end up costing you more at the end ....Helpful Reply

Cyndi Moore Tippett on Dec 05, 2013Our motto has been when the work it finished you get paid. We have been stuck when they get part of the money and won't finish the job. We had a roofer once who left his trailer full of shingles in our yard for over six weeks. Called, Called and finally called the police and they said we could take the trailer and shingles to the dump. Called him one more time and WHA LA , he found a way to get the trailer gone in one hour.Helpful Reply

Dotdirt on Dec 05, 2013I'm a contractor, and on the large jobs that require a materials check, I always have the materials on site, and have my guys put in a full day before I ask for that check. I always make sure that I stay ahead of the customer; meaning, I've done more than they've paid for at any time. I also have plenty of references, and I offer that. I can understand guys walking up to your door, but on a job that doesn't require materials like a tree cutting, why would you pay up front? Unless they were going to sign for the job being paid in stages.Helpful Reply
