Painting over ASCP

Shelagh on Dec 04, 2013Hi, Kathy. Has the dresser been "sealed" with a top coat of wax or poly? If so, I would sand it and then if you feel it needs to be primed, do so. It's hard to say when you make your own paint if it's going to cover as well as the well-known brands, so you may need to paint two coats. Has this been helpful?Helpful Reply

Elaine Simmons on Dec 04, 2013I have used only the homemade version (the one with the plaster of paris) and it went on well but depending on how dark the wood is to begin with, I had to use 2 coats and sometimes 3. I am like Shelagh, I would rough it up with sandpaper or give it a coat of primer if it is really shiny.Helpful Reply

Down to Earth Holly on Dec 04, 2013I agree that a little sanding would be safe - even if you just use 220 grit. Chalk paint seems to stick to everything wood.Helpful Reply
