DIY Metallic Colored Reindeer

After falling in love with so many metallic colored reindeer in the stores recently, I thought we needed some for our home this holiday season. But, of course, instead of buying them at the store, I thought I could make some of my own.
This first thing I had to do was find some reindeer. Where or where would I find them? Thrift stores of course!
With no intention of finding reindeer, I ventured out on my “hunt”. Heading to a thrift store with a specific thing in mind usually means I am not going to find it. That day, the reindeer gods were watching over me because I found three reindeer in the first store I hit!
The first one I found was small, but I knew he would work perfect for the spot I had in mind. This next reindeer I found were like hitting the jackpot. There was a set of them and they were a great size!
I did notice twelve a few small problems with them though. Do you see it? Candle holders anyone? Twelve of them on their antlers. When I set out on this mission, I did not envision candle holders on my reindeer antlers. I tried and tried to think of something I could do to camouflage them but nothing came to mind. I started to put them back on the shelf when I noticed one of the candle holders was loose. What? After further investigation, I found that all of the candle holders were screwed on and could easily be unscrewed and removed! Alleluia! The reindeer gods were still with me!
I was so excited to get these little guys home and transform them into the metallic colored reindeer they were destined to be.
This project could not be any easier. For the first little reindeer, I dusted him and spray painted him silver. He did fit perfectly in the spot I thought he would.
For the other two reindeer, I removed all the candle holders, filled the holes with caulk and let them dry over night.
The next morning, I spray painted them with Rustoleum’s “hammered” spray paint (I wanted a darker metallic color on these guys and this paint fit the bill).
To add a little more holiday flair to them, I tied ribbon and jingle bells to their necks.
This entire process - from “hunting” the reindeer to transforming them into the metallic beauties they are today was well worth it.
