Buy ice at the store for a dollar (7 pounds of ice) and put it in the dispenser or just put the bag in the freezer.
did that once but the ice that I got didn't seem to last long but it was only 2 bucks for 20 lbs
Buying ice is the easy way to go but you don't know what the condition was of the water used. Making it at home you at least know where the water came from. I use a Multi-Pure water filter and it removes most of all the garbage that is found in our drinking water. It makes for some very good ice.
I couldn't live without my portable ice maker. We camp and it saves us a lot of money (buying ice) and time (going after ice). When not camping I bring it in so it gets a lot of use. It is about 4 years old now. Sounds like it is on its last leg but I will replace it for sure.
I feeling I run mind 1 day every 3 days. I just like freezing it in the freezer makes it the ice last a little longer.
