What can I use to decorate a jar for homemade candles?

I am going to take a class on making homemade candles. The instructor said to bring ribbon and anything I want to use to decorate the jar. Any ideas on what to use to decorate the jar? Thanks!

Maybe some paint pens to draw a nice design around the edges? Sounds like fun, post a photo when you're done!

How about some clear glue and colored sand. Make a design and the candle will shine through the sand.
