I have checked it out also. You would have to rent a floor sander. Then run it over the floor to remove the old finish. Lowes or Home Depot have a finish that you can apply, You have to remove all your furniture from the room or you can just do 1/2 at a time. Good Luck.

Rent a sander at a rental store - we rented ours from Lowes. Sanded down the floors; covered the doorways with plastic that were not getting sanded. Then stained them, two coats - let dry at least 24 hours in between coats, and then 2 coats of poly - again let dry at least 24 hours between coats. If it is very cold or wet outside or inside - it will dry much slower. We brought in large fans to the rooms. It is a lot of work, but makes such a difference!
