Little packet of D rings and e6000 glue. Wait 24 hours to let glue set on back of plate, and hang.
The two methods mentioned above are the best ones that I know of. FYI a lot of the spring clips that you mentioned have a plastic guard around the clips that are there to protect the plate.

I have used the yellow disc and they have worked well but do check them every 6mo. I just had a plate fall. It was on the soffit above the sink and I think the humidity from the sink loosened the disc. I checked the rest and found the one over the stove - also subject to steam to also be loose. I have changed those and a couple of others over to the metal kind. There are also the plate holder racks that are metal work like and hold a series of three or four plates.
