Our shower has hard water stains, particularly the glass & everything

Sherrie on Dec 08, 2013I can tell you how to clean it off, but once it's damaged the hard water will grab the etched glass and build up again if it isn't dried each time it's used. The Works ( Walmart, Dollar General sells it), Magic Eraser Sponge. And I wear a cheap Mask! Open a window, turn on the fan. The Works contains muratic acid this is why it works! Pun intended. I pour the The Works on the Magic Eraser and work in small sections and rinse. Do not use this on metal if you do rinse right away, the cheaper metals it will discolor. Here is the problem, after you get it off if you don't rinse and dry your shower it will build back up. It is damaged from hard water build up. I have used this on whole showers to get the build up off. You take a chance using this to discolor the metal. This is a last ditch when all else fails to clean thing. I used this this week on a shower door and the people called and said they thought the glass was frosted. They have lived in the house for 8 years. Let me know how it works for you! Also I don't use muratic acid full strength it will burn and it's a lot harder to use even through I use it in some cleaning methods. Good luck!Helpful Reply

Sherrie on Dec 08, 2013after I answered this I also forgot to tell you it will still have little scratches on it. But the hard water should be gone. Not prefect but it looks pretty good.Helpful Reply

Marcy on Dec 09, 2013You'd be surprised, but vinegar works very well. Pour it on, let it sit 10-15 minutes and use a non-abrasive sponge to wipe/wash off.Helpful Reply

Debbie Harris on Dec 09, 2013Just use "lime-away" in the green bottle. It works miracles and is specifically for hard water and lime build up.Helpful Reply

Connie on Dec 10, 2013I have the same issue as we have well water. A neighbor stopped in who has lived here her whole life. She told me to use The Works toilet bowl cleaner. get it at the dollar store. She squirted it on and the ugliness literally melted down the side of the glass doors and the shower walls. She then poured some on a sponge and wiped the walls and glass really well then let sit 5 min. Turned shower on and it rinsed off. BRIGHT and CLEAN.. MIND yourself though the smell is strong and can burn your eyes a bit if too close. Wear rubber gloves to get busy. I wrapped a towel around my nose ad mouth, opened a window and the door, then got down to business in the small bathroom. Both look good as new. I did try the lime away- nothing as good, then tried the works shower and tub cleaner, not as good. The toilet bowl cleaner works fantastic and is safe for septic systems. I now only have to wipe everything down monthly as opposed to scouring.Helpful Reply
