My thought is just to get you thinking about what to do. First, change the color of the table. You can sand parts of it easily. The legs and details on the apron might take a bit of work. Or, you may be able to use something like I do on my door frames when I do not want to sand. This product works great. Liquid sander deglosser can be found at Lowes. . Then, paint the table. Go over it with another paint of you choice and wipe most of it away to leave the first color showing though on the high points. I would suggest something either bold or that matches the inserts. Good luck. It is too nice to chunk out the door.
Another thing you might think about doing is removing the legs and replacing them with straighter lines. If the relief can be taken off of the apron, take it off if you decide to change the legs. It will give the table a slick new modern look. Also, you might think about changing out the inserts with wood that is painted or new stone in a new color. I hope I have given you a few thoughts. Good luck.
You can change the glass.I would not recommend painting it!
You could take the glass pieces to a glass shop and have them cut clear glass for the table. Or have a carpenter cut wood inserts where glass goes and stain to match rest of table. Or have a carpenter cut one piece of wood to cover the whole top and stain all to match or restain all. Corners may be difficult but can be done. I love the carving on the side and legs
A woodworker can make wood panels to replace the glass. You could make an upholstered bench. You could paint and change the look. Good luck!
Here are some ideas HomeTalkers have done ***** http://www.hometalk.com/search/posts?filter=painting%20coffee%20table ***** as for the glass: if you like the pattern you can spray paint the underside of the glass. You can cover the glass with transparent Contact Paper. Comes in all kinds of patterns and designs. You can replace it with thin wood panels. Use the glass as a template, cut the wood panel with a jig saw, stain or paint.
Oh my gosh I love that table! To me it has the old lines of an antique table I would crackle glaze it with an off white creamy color and put glass in the inserts. I just looked at the inserts again and if you use those instead glass and crackle glaze it you could use a paint that matches the light color in the inserts and I think it would really look good a light color with those still in it. Ok I'll hush now that's just a couple of my 2 cent ideas. Good luck with whatever you do!!
You can paint the underside of the glass, they also have "mirror" paint now if you want a mirror look to the glass. I have my mirror cut at a glass dealer...all types of mirror finishes are available new to vintage looking. Really inexpensive and it looks to be thin so shouldn't cost much if you have it replaced.Clear glass will show the unfinished edges but you can refinish that too if you like. I love the vintage look to it, I would just lighten it a bit , highlight some of the carving with a small tube of rub wax finish-colors and golds, silvers, pewters etc. are available.(like they do with carved picture frames) super easy and add some really pretty vintage looking mirror to it! Don't ruin it by taking it all apart! It is a pretty piece!
there is always glass paint you can buy it at a hobly store and it works beautifully. Just choose the color/colors and paint it on. I use it all the time.
The base could be stunning painted in black satin. Paint the underside of the glass or glue fabric and place on top. Simple and table top is intact. I would look at laminated, heavier textiles such as faux leather and adhere with a Modge Podge type product
You could simply add wood planks to the top secured with liquid nails & some decorative nails! Home Depot or Lowes will cut them to size for you! Paint or leave wood! Gorgeous!
I like the painted base and wood planked top suggestion, it's very country and would completely change the look of the table. If you wanted to stay with glass inserts, maybe you could use a razor blade and scrap the current color off and then paint them or leave them clear. I don't think painting the top of the glass would hold up to use. It really depends on your style.
Check out "Unicorn Spit" it is fabulous and you can use it on glass.
I would paint the table off white to match the color in the glass (it looks like marble). It's gorgeous, the table just needs to be updated in color.
Hello I would do winter white get a pattern of lace that you like and on the winter white kind of paint on the teal on the top of it and I think it'll blend in with the teal green on the top of the winter white through the lace through the lace on the top teal on the bottom part I hope you kind of see what I'm saying
