you can use oven cleaner I would use it cold meaning don't warm your oven first. Any place I didn't want oven cleaner on I use news papers and cover it. Let the oven cleaner set a few hours or spray it before bed, most of it should be able to be wiped out without much work.

I would try the method that I used on my stove top grates. I would place a bowl of ammonia in the cold oven and shut the door, do not open for probably 12 hours. Take out the ammonia and wipe down the oven with warm water. I'm not sure how it will work on the oven but it did wonders for my burner grates. I placed them in a plastic bag along with a small bowl of ammonia and let it set for 24 hours, warm soapy water = clean grates. This is just my experience.

best oven cleaner I ever used was a hand held steamer.it takes less than two cups of water, no waiting, no soaking, no chemicals..... and cleans like a dream in a minute or so, and the only mess you clean up is a simple wipe with the damp sponge at the bottom, after you have steamed the sides and top. I will NEVER use a chemical cleaner on an oven again.

I use a Razor blade scraper, an industrial sized one. You can purchase at Lowes in their paint department.Much easier and no chemicals, get a chair and sit down on each side of the oven door.

Good old baking soda works really, really well. But I also like Fiona's suggestion of the hand held steamer.
