    Hey Sue,

Yes, there are so many different ideas on when and how to trim our trees and shrubs, and even that varies by our location and time of year.

I have a huge lilac that got so weighed down with snow and ice winter 2015 that I thought it was a goner! It came back and leafed out and bloomed like nothing had happened-cracked branches and all!

I would check with your local nursery that raises and sells your kind of trees. If not, check online-do you know exact (or very close) what trees you have? Or call an arborist, usually with a degree that works with a reputable tree-trimming service.

Wyoming has a longer cold season (I live in Wyoming, Michigan and we tend to have 1 day of summer 👙🌴😎), then it's over.

    Happy 2017!

I used to live in MI and I hated the weather in that you can never count on Spring being Spring and each season the same. I like a little more predictability so we moved to NE GA and at least Spring comes in February and Winter in December. I love it and would never live in MI again. It's nice to visit in July, August and the Fall but that's the extent of my visiting.

Contact your county agricultural agent and ask him. Be sure and know the names of the trees you wish to trim. That's my best advice.

Just remember , trimming promotes new growth . Always wait until the last frost to prune any tree or shrub . New growth is tender , and frost will set back any new growth .

Hey Janet- Well, I guess I still like the change of seasons, whenever they show up! I'm from San Diego where it pretty much stays the same year-round, although I grew up in the East County where it is usually warmer and drier than the beach/airport/vacation areas that can stay foggy and cooler (nicknamed the "June gloom"). I guess I could put up with that weather again and just visit the snow when I wanted to, not to get out of my garage!
