I burnt a round circle on my counter top from a hot pot. I rent. HELP!
Definitely don't use anything acidic ( vinegar) or ammonia- they will corrode the marble.

Is it stains from oil or vinegar? Did you use a bacteria wipes or degreaser? How big are the stains? All of this makes a difference in how to treat it yourself.
I had a lemon (acid) stain the third day we had our marble table top. I went to a store that sales stone for counters and they had a cleaner they sold me. I suggest you do the same but make sure you go with the proper information because there are different products for different types of damage.
I have carrara marble countertops that are full of etch spots and of course, it is disappointing, but I decided I would do my best to make the look as alive as possible. All the remedies I've seen do not touch the problem, so I decided to not 'baby' them anymore and when I have yet another spot, I use Bar Keeper's Friend new liquid version. You will not get these stains out without a mild abrasive no matter what anyone tells you. After I scrub out the stains, the counter is very, very dull of course, so I go over the entire surface, spread evenly (not just the etch marks) with lemon oil. I have some from Holland House which is sold in most hardware stores, and you don't need a lot of it but you will let the lemon oil sit for a few hours or overnight. Not sure about any other oils, but I'm guessing baby oil would work too. I wipe off the excess of the oil with a paper towel. I've had these countertops now for 4 yrs. and I cook a lot. I was warned about how tedious marble countertops are, but I don't care, I love the look of it. No matter how careful you are, you are definitely going to get a lot of etching on carrara unless you do positively no cooking, and I like to cook. You will still see scratches if you closely inspect the countertop but it is better than the dull etch marks any day. Good luck!
