Definitely one of the numerous Dahlias!!! We have to dig up the bulbs and over-winter them to replant every year! But a really high zone means they will live year around.

They look to be Dahlias. In my zone 7, I can leave the bulbs of the mini Dahlias in ground year-round with no problem. The larger ones don't make it.

I would say they are Dahlias.

If they are in a pot with roots, they are Mums. If they are bulbs, kind of longish ones, they are Dahlias. Usually see more Mums in the fall or late summer, but when the Dahlias bloom in NY it was summer.

Call where ever he bought them and ask what they are. Remember that these were grown in a hot house to insure perfection. Dahlias are very lovely and come in many sizes, shapes, and colors. I don't know where you live but if you are in a planting zone of about 7 or more south you may be able to grow them and not have to dig them up. Otherwise you will have to dig up in the fall just as the first hard freeze comes and store until spring. If you have to do that you can always start them in the house earlier than when the ground gets warm. That way you can get an earlier start on the blooming period. Yes they are. That is why I said to call the place where he bought them an verify that they are dahlias. Then the rest was advice about growing them.

I'd call the florist and ask. My guess is some kind of zinnias or dahli. That color is beautifu!

I'm pretty sure they are Dahlias. I grow 100+ and know them well. They grow well in most climes and the variety of color, size, and shape make them winners in any garden. Oh, and they multiply quite well.

If you posted a picture of the leaf, it would be much easier to identify.

First look, dahlias, but if they smell spicy, with that characteristic mum smell when you handle them, no question. Dahlias aren't easily available through florists without special order, so probably mums. Beautiful!

These are Mums and if they are potted you cans plant them outside. They come back every year and bloom late summer. They also come in a really large variety of colors. We've had them planted in different parts of NM and Az for years.

I agree with Arlene, they are Mums or Chrysanthemums, which come in a variety of different blooms and colors. When your local nurseries open, you can check out your area as to what they have, they are perennials and will spread like mints. If you want to keep them in check, plant them in pots. Enjoy

Not sure exactly. Must be the larger surface area of the bulb making them more susceptible to rot. Same goes for tulips in my area as we get an average of 18-22 inches of rain each year. Rain is death to flower bulbs especially the large ones.

i think they are dahlias. chrysanthemums would show more green and the flower looks more like a carnation

I would take the picture to your local nursery to be sure. My first thought was Aster because of the color, but it could be Chrysanthemum or Dahlia. Can't tell without knowing the size. In the order of size (diameter of bloom) from my list above Aster 3-4", Mums 4-6", and Dahlia 4-8". All depending on variety, and that's just what I know based on my own experience. Ask a professional.

your welcome I would look into growing them , there are many varieties. . They are really easy to grow , in the fall you dig up the bulbs and you will have many to plant in other spots in your garden.

Dahlias--the only problem I've had is that most need staking to keep from falling over. They come in many colors, too, but yours is beautiful.
