How can I get my gray undershirts white?
My DH wears sleeveless undershirts and no matter what we try they always turn a dingy gray. How can we keep them white or make them white, again?
That definitely is an old hack. Works like a charm.
Charm indeed!
Rubbing alcohol works about the same. I've used on clothing, purses that accidentally got marked, etc. and nearly always have been happy.
Thanks, I just saw a mark on my new table cloth. I hope it works on polyester.
This is very very good to know, thank you!
I've used it for years to get ballpoint out of uniforms.
Also if you get blood on a garment, peroxide will take it out and not hurt the fabric. An assistant at my doctor's office told me that I had a blood draw and the blood oozed from under the bandaid onto my sweater. Worked like a charm and did not hurt the sweater.
It will also take ink off vinyl or leather. I used it on an automobile seat back.
Thank jan for that tip!
it works great Have been using this for years
My Granddaughter left a pen in her work apron and ruined about $200.00 worth of clothes. She had a real melt down and I told her to get 2 cans of cheap hair spray at the dollar store. We started with the clothes with the least amount of marking and worked all day until we had the very worst of her clothes completely clear of any ink. She thanked me many, many times. If I get a spot of ink on my clothes i run get the hair spray. Wet the spot and scrape with a fingernail. Comes right off.
I was in the Navy for many years and our dress uniforms were all white. Always ink marks! And sometimes like you say, husband would leave a pen in his pocket! What a mess in the washer. I thank my mother for teaching me about the hairspray trick years ago. Also how to use bluing instead of bleach to get whiter whites with no yellow. It's hard to find anymore but still around some places (Amazon!) - plus you can do amazing crystal-production science experiments with your kids (bluing plus borax!)
Awesome story! Thanks for sharing!!!
Cool! I want to try the crystal making!
what about suede?
Haven't tried this on suede. I know on smooth leather it works. Has anyone else here tried it on suede?
Don't use hairspray on dry clean only fabrics, they can't remove it. Take it to them and they will use their own solvents. Wouldn't use it on suede either, or exotic leathers.
Thanks Ljrshaw!
I have used this for years. Great to post it for the younger crowd. You have to be careful and not rub the stain...the fabric will nap up!
I have been doing this all my life, my Mom did it. I thought everyone knew this..LOL
apples cut them in half. or use .lemon slices grapefruit in bowl of water ..if have floor registers...put bowls on them...help humidify...or just take vanilla and heat it up in pan or oven a few min. add a little water
