First pour lemon juice on the stains, wait a few minutes and pour white vinegar on the stains, follow by pouring salt on them as well. Wait for about 30 minutes to see if the stains have lifted. If not repeat the process until the stains come out and wash with warm water and soap.

If none of the above work, try a paste made out of Bar Keepers Friend and water. Sponge on stain, work into fabric. Leave on no more than one minute. Rinse well.

I just wash it in washer with soap and Tilex mold and mildew cleaner. This Tilex will remove dyes too. Be careful.

That is not a good idea because it will remove the finish inside of your washing machine. 1. Wash with lemon and rinse thoroughly before washing. 2. Sprinkle salt over the stain and set a clean white rag with white vinegar over the stain barely rung out, not dripping but wet enough to form against the stain then thoroughly rinse and wash in machine. 3. According to directions on Bar Keeper's Friend if the material is accommodating and safe, wash/blot, thoroughly rinse and then wash. The older the rust stain, the less chance that it will be removed.

Purchase CLR Rust Remover and spray on rust stain.

CLR didn't even lighten the rust ring around bath tub drain. I followed directions. I would try other natural recipes first. I didn't let it get like that it's a home we purchased and they're to blame I keep things clean. Good luck.

I read on eHow that I should soak the fabric in white vinegar. I had curtains which had rust stains from the radiators leaking on the floor above. They looked terrible but I could not afford new ones. I got a clean bucket, I poured in a large bottle of white vinegar, and put in the curtains, the rustiest end first, and then added water to ensure all fabric was covered and wet. I agitated it with my hand a bit, and I let it sit. I let it sit overnight is probably way more than it needed. The curtains came out beautifully! I air dried them on tension rods, then ran them on tumble to soften them up, I used a steamer to get out wrinkles, and I was super impressed with the result. They looked brand new! (These were lined curtains in a natural color, had they gotten damaged I was prepared to find a way to get new ones). I do advise people to test the fabric first, I did not because this was a make or break solution for me. I have a white waffle weave shower curtain, and it started getting yellow and rusty red on the bottom. I did the same thing, bucket, vinegar, soak... it came out perfectly! I spent $3 on vinegar instead of $30 on a new curtain. Now I have added a fabric shower curtain liner to the mix, and it, too is turning red on the bottom. As we speak both shower curtains are soaking in the vinegar and I expect to have a brand new look in the bathroom tomorrow. Good luck everyone! If only I could just get the cats to stop snagging the cloth....
