Backsplash ideas

I have a small backsplash that is currently just the wall. I was originally going to put beadboard in it but I've decided to do beadboard cabinets. What are some easy, DIY, CHEAP ideas for a country cottage backsplash that will go with cream colored beadboard cabinetry and chunky tile? Thank you!

Tin ceiling tiles or the faux tin ceiling tiles would look nice with beadboard cabinets.

I saw A back splash that this one guy did and he used A round stencil sponge brush different colors of paint, then he stamped the wall and put the circles real close together and it really looked good. Kind of looked it was that small tile from 30s or 40s.

A small mosaic tile with color would look great. It would become like a piece of beautiful jewelry for your wall. You can pick up sections of that pretty cheap especially when stores are changing stock and they discount their leftovers.

You could get some perspex cut to size and paint it what ever way you like on the back ,alternatively find something you would like to see and glue it onto the back facing out ,you could even do a collage possibilities are endless.

I agree with Ellie I found enough for my back splash at a local recycle center they were 2ft sq I was able to cut in half. they were $2.00 I bought 5 and had 20 ft of backsplash.. My advice to reusers is never draft a complete idea until you have searched flea markets, new to you recycle centers.
  • You are always safe with a travertine, One thing you need to watch for is if you are doing bead board cabinets, some beading patterns have a lot more lines in them, and if you select a tile that is busy i.e. a brick pattern of some type you may not like the busy ness once it is all together. There are some honed travertines available in the marketplace and offer the color you are looking for but the texture is smoother and together with your cabinets would be beautiful. Also you did not say what your counter top is? this to will play apart in the selection and color . If you have chosen a granite this will most likely be busy on its own unless its a solid color. You don't want the patterns to compete.

Marle subway tile is much less costly than people assume, is very affordable actually. Had I used it instead of the $13/foot tile I used, I would have saved over 50%

I just applied a textured backsplash in a kitchen using sand, mixed with semi-gloss paint. Rolled it on with a 4" nap roller, several times until I got the look I wanted in less than an hour and for less than $20 for the entire project. Easy peasy. OR you cold apply joint compound randomly for a different texture. Have fun.

@B. Enne Depending on the look you're going for, there is a spray can with texture that you can apply and then "knock it down" for the look you want. Or you can apply joint compound and create your own design. The sand texture is exactly that, sanded texture, thin or heavy depending on how much you apply. It's just easy and budget friendly. Have fun and best of luck.

My go-to backsplash on the cheap is to get a roll of paintable wallpaper - especially the ones that look like pressed tin. I have even painted just the raised parts and the backsplash looked like expensive tile.
