Shelf Repurposed

My husband retrofitted a wall unit unit to fit a larger flat TV and was going to put this shelf in the garage for future use. I asked him if I could have it as I had an idea of what to do with it,
First off I mixed some white chalk paint with some green to get the color I wanted. The color of the shelf was natural wood.
After it was painted I went to my local craft store and bought some rope. I marked up the piece where I wanted the rope to go through and with my husband's tools and help, we drilled holes large enough forthe rope to go through.
I threaded the rope to the desired length and knotted.
We made a notch on the back of the piece where the rope came out so it would not make the piece separate too much from the wall.
I like to can so I have quite a stash of mason jars so my idea was to hang 3 mason jars to then fill with flowers. Initially I though I would use the plumbing strips that have little holes but found that to be too thick to properly fit around the neck of the jars. I had some floral wire in gold that would work. After measuring the distance I marked where each jar would have to sit and drilled a hole big enough to fit 2 pieces if the wire.
I wrapped the wire around the neck of the Mason jar twice and twisted in the back before inserting both pieces through the holes. We then used a screw in the back to wrap the wire around for added strength. I then filled with some silk flowers I had gotten on sale,
And here it is hanging on a wall on my terrace! Even my husband said it looked great.
Enjoyed the project?
